Families raising children with disabilities often navigate complex systems—medical, educational, therapeutic, and community spaces—while also seeking connection, clarity, and support. Family Compass is our one-to-one family guidance program designed to help caregivers move through these moments with confidence.
We listen first. Families share what they’re facing—new diagnoses, school questions, service gaps, transitions—and we help break down the landscape into clear, manageable next steps.
Alabama’s disability ecosystem can feel overwhelming. Family Compass connects caregivers with trusted resources, support organizations, service providers, and tools that align with their specific needs and priorities.
While we do not serve as advocates or represent families in school processes, we help caregivers understand the structure of special education, what questions to ask, and how to prepare for conversations with their child’s school in a way that feels empowering and collaborative.
Families often tell us that the most powerful support comes from knowing they’re not alone. When appropriate, we connect caregivers with other parents who share similar journeys, creating organic points of community and encouragement.
Many families reach out in seasons of stress or uncertainty. Family Compass provides a calm, informed starting point—helping caregivers slow down, breathe, and move forward with more clarity.

As part of Family Compass, we maintain a curated, regularly updated Resource Guide highlighting community supports, disability services, and family-facing tools across Alabama. Families can explore the guide on their own or use it alongside a Compass Conversation to identify practical, relevant options.
Many families navigate disability-related decisions alone, without clear information or a trusted partner to help interpret the path ahead. Family Compass strengthens family stability, reduces overwhelm, and helps caregivers feel equipped to support their children confidently—something that creates ripple effects across home, school, and community life.
This program is part of The Wildflower Alliance’s commitment to building communities where families raising children with disabilities feel seen, supported, and connected.

Parents of children with disabilities are often expected to navigate complex systems — school services, medical decisions, evaluations, insurance barriers, and community resources — with little guidance and no roadmap. Many families lose months simply trying to figure out where to begin.
Family Compass provides individualized guidance at no cost.
A single Compass session helps a parent understand their options, identify their next steps, and avoid unnecessary delays in support.
Your gift ensures families never have to navigate life-shaping decisions alone.
Families often share personal details when seeking guidance. We treat this information with care. Conversations with Family Compass are kept private within The Wildflower Alliance and used only to provide appropriate support. We do not share personal information with schools, agencies, or partners without explicit permission from the caregiver.
We keep brief internal notes to ensure continuity of support; these notes are stored securely and never used for evaluation, compliance, or advocacy purposes. Family Compass is a voluntary program. Families choose what they share and may opt out at any time.
The Wildflower Alliance is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
